The Community Theatre of Coffeyville will present it's second production of the season with the two time Tony Award winning musical comedy, The Twenty-Fifth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee conceived by Rebecca Feldman with music and lyrics by William Finn by, a book by Rachel Sheinkin and additional material by Jay Reiss. The show centers around a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups.The 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee for one performane only on December 2 at 7:30pm at the Sleep Inn & Suites at 202 West 11th Street in Coffeyville. The Twenty-Fifth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee cast includes: Bethanie Frank, Mark Frank, Zach Bartz, John Gray, Clifford Lee, Mariah Maitlin, Brianna Cordova, Kerri Hurley, and Caleb Coffman. Mark Frank is the Director and John Gray is the Musical Director with Amber Long as the stage manager. The musical is $6 for adults and $3 for students with only 125 seats available. Tickets can only be purchased at the door the night of the performance starting at 7pm. The musical is rated PG-13 and does contain some adult content not suitable for children under thirteen. The birth of The Community Theatre of Coffeyville is taking place next Thursday night, November 18th at the Sleep Inn and Suites (Which is our major sponsor) banquet room starting at 7:30pm with our premiere performance of A Night of Broadway which is showcasing community talent of Coffeyville. A Night of Broadway Comes to Coffeyville

The new Community Theatre of Coffeyville will present it's very first production under the direction of Executive Director and President of TCT, Mark Frank. A Night of Broadway will be presented on November 18th at 7:30pm at the Sleep Inn and Suites Banquet room. We are proud to have Sleep Inn and Suites and GM Patty Ludlum sponsor our first production. The production will feature performers of singers, actors, comedians, magicians, and musicians from the community of Coffeyville which includes, Marty Frye, Cindy Powell, Craig Powell, Christina Wulf, Tylar Dougan, Brianna Cordova, Audrey Hughes, Marcalinas Asebedo, Lauren Curley, Tim Key, Tom and Claudia McCurry, Cora Green, Liz Allen, Caelin Golladay, Kenny Aduddell, Cooper Smart, Atlantis Frank, Mariah Maitlin, Laura Michael, Michelle Hucke, John Gray, Aaron Phillips, Pete Walterscheid, Zach Bartz, Nicole Santorella, Chris Dodd, and Mark Gard (Accompanist). Mark Frank will be MC for the event. Admission is $10 and the proceeds will go to help establish the new community theatre future productions. The production will be dedicated to longtime Coffeyville Community Theatre actress, Joan Veron. Tickets for the event will only be sold outside the banquet room of Sleep Inn starting at 6:30pm November 18th. Only 100 seats are available. Community Foundation Awards Grant to the Community Theatre of Coffeyville
The Coffeyville Area Community Foundation (CACF) granted a $500 matching grant to The Community Theatre (TCT) of Coffeyville to begin their 2010 season. TCT promises to revitalize community theatre in Coffeyville with the introduction of several Reader’s Theatres to be held in the upcoming months. TCT began a fundraising drive in June and is planning its first production in November when they will host A Night of Broadway. Other productions to anticipate from TCT are: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Sunshine Boys. The Coffeyville Area Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization which provides avenues for donors to make gifts to our communities. Since 2001, the Community Foundation has awarded nearly $700,000 in grants into Southeast Kansas. With contributions from Donors, the Community Foundation has received nearly $2 million in grant awards from outside sources bringing funds into Montgomery County and Southeast Kansas. The local Foundation’s Board of Directors works with individuals, organizations, businesses, and other nonprofit entities to help further charitable goals. The Foundation utilizes both endowed and non-endowed funds and grants for contributions to charitable endeavors improving the quality of life for people in our area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aren't I supporting you when I buy a ticket to The Community Theater? When you buy a ticket to the movies or to a baseball game, the cost of that ticket covers at least 100% of all expenses associated with producing that event. When you buy a ticket to the theatre, the cost of that ticket only covers 50% of the expenses associated with producing the play. Theatres are non-profit organizations which thrive off the generosity of their donors.

Why don't you just raise your ticket prices? A night at the theatre should not be a luxury for the rich and famous! In order to cover the cost of production and administrative expenses without additional fundraising, an evening for two at The Community Theatre would cost way too much! Ticket sales would decrease rapidly with such an expensive ticket price and The Community Theater would lose many of its new patrons. Although we would earn more money per ticket, we would lose a significant number of ticket buyers and probably end up having to solicit funds anyway!

If I make a donation in addition to my ticket purchase, aren't I paying that much anyway? Well, maybe. But not everyone can afford to donate at the same level. The Community Theater keeps the ticket prices at a reasonable level in the hopes that our patrons will donate at a reasonable level in return. Whether it is a $5 donation from a first-time patron, or a $500 donation from a long-standing friend of The Community Theater, generosity at any level makes an enormous impact to our success.

Is my donation tax deductible? YES! After your donation is processed in the office, if you need a thank-you letter just ask.

What do you do with my donation? We spend it on the shows in our season! Next time you visit our theater website pictures, just look at the scripts, space and the rental fee's to see the affect of your generosity. You can be assured that your donation will directly fund the productions in the current season. When attending a Community Theater show, take pride in knowing your contribution is reflected on that stage.

What do I get in return for my donation? Besides the warm, fuzzy feeling of supporting outstanding theater in Coffeyville? You want MORE than that? Well, all of our donors receive free tickets to one show. Any donor who gives $50 or more receives recognition in all of the Play Programs for the season.

What about corporate and foundation giving? The Community Theater solicits support from many of foundations and corporations each year. (After all we are brand new!) With so many Performing Arts groups in such a small town, corporations and foundations typically rotate their giving cycles. Additionally, the events of September 11th and the nation's current economic situation have taken quite a toll on many foundations and corporate giving programs. After all, a corporation who needs to lay off 100 employees just to survive is in NO position to donate money to non-profits. Therefore, we are in constant search for new corporate and foundation support. What can I do if I can't afford to donate money? The Community Theater has a long list of items that we can always use. Check our website to find our updated "wish list." (See below) An in-kind donation of any of the following items will help at any time: White or colored copy paper General office supplies: pens, pencils, paper clips, binders, folders, tape, etc. Poster board CD's Labels Clear plastic storage bins.

How do I make a donation? It's very easy to make a tax-deductible donation to The Community Theater. Subscribers and past donors will receive a solicitation letter for our Annual Fund. If you do not receive a letter, you may pick up a donation envelope in the lobby during one of our productions.

The New Community Theatre

New Community Theatre forming in Coffeyville
The Community Theatre (TCT) is a new not for profit community theatre forming in Coffeyville. Currently the theatre has located a space in the city of Coffeyville. The theatre has also recently elected officers and created its by-laws. The Community Theatre is unique as it will be a Readers Dinner Theatre offering three plays a year which will consist of, a musical, a classic movie script or radio play, and a contemporary play. Rehearsals will only be two nights with only one performance night to follow. Actors will perform by reading or singing from the script and the performance will be in the form of a dinner theatre featuring a array of appetizers and a cash bar. We are currently looking for interested community members from Coffeyville that would be interested in coming to our first organization meeting.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing in support of Mark Frank and Kenny Aduddell regarding the interest in applying for non-profit status for their community theatre inspiration.

Mark and Kenny approached our young non-profit organization early in 2009 with the production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, in hopes of helping Downtown Coffeyville Inc. bring a splash of culture to our community as well as help us fundraise to revitalize our downtown district. The dinner threatre production was a major success, raising a little over $5000! People engaged, laughed, appreciated and cherished their evening of community theatre.

It was such a wonderful occasion; we decided to collaborate again in early 2010 for the production of The Women by Clare Booth Luce. This time the spin was Valentine’s Day and incorporating Coffeyville’s hometown “tastes” of their restaurants. We had over 10 restaurants participate with their specialties donated for the guests watching live theatre. Again, another impressive accomplishment making a little under $5000!

Coffeyville conveys a strong sense of community pride, rich history, enthusiasm, teamwork and creative ideas, which is a strong testament to who we are as a person and community. We would be fortunate to have The Community Theatre of Coffeyville to continue to educate and entertain our fare community.
